| Review of Adult Rated:
"Glaze Me Like a Donut!" You know, having your own place by yourself really gives you a deeper appreciation of porn. It means you can turn up the volume and actually listen. Sure, some girls are just stupid sounding. And I really hate that godawful porno soundtrack music. But every once in a while, you get some classic lines that are so bad/good that they bear repeating. In one of the gangbang movies I downloaded on Adult Rated, our foxy female belts out the line I just recited. Now that is a classic.
Adult Rated is a video on demand website, which allows you to download previously released porn DVDs on your computer. It really is a nice concept- the porn companies can make a little money on their older movies, and us as consumers can get lots of porn for the price of one porn dvd! We all win, and that is why we are seeing an increase in sites like this. However, the sites like this are also riddled with the same problems. So we will take a look at those problems, get more into the site, and then we'll give a dissertation on how the site stands up to others.
Problem #1- Originality. Usually, these sites are getting their content from the same places Adult Rated, unfortunately, is pretty much in the same boat. I've been on dozens of these sites, and while each one does have some different content, I usually attribute that more to adding content as time goes by, and not being original. So joining up with Adult Rated isn't going to give you much different content as the other like-minded sites here.
Problem #2- Indexing. With sites like this, usually the biggest problem is that the videos are all over the place. They overlap with each other, which makes it even harder to try to download everything. Hell, downloading everything would be a hard task anyway. I think here, they have done a decent job. However, if you use their "generic categories", you will see that not everything fits. For example, I went into the lesbian category, expecting to see some hot mouth-on-box action. However, going into the third page, there were lots of videos with lots of dick. Sure, one scene might have lesbian action, but thats it. So while it is really hard to index these videos, again the best way is to go through the studios- because every other way is a little frustrating.
Problem #3- Consistency. I think this will always be a problem with sites like this. As we jump from movie to movie, and studio to studio, we have different types of looks to videos. It will never be truly consistent. I think my biggest problem here is that while I accept those inconsistencies, there are inconsistencies within the actual video types. The newer videos have all kinds of options, whereas older ones are very much optionless and also segmented.
Problem #4- Standing out. The biggest problem I've found with sites like this is that they are not very genre-specific. Instead of giving you a full on blitz of one subject, they give you a little bit of this and a little bit of that. The end result is like getting a brief overview of all categories, but never really delving into one particular one. There are a few sites that don't have this problem, and those rank amongst my favorites.
So Adult Rated doesn't really excel in any of the weaknesses these sites have. Does that mean they can't be a viable site? Absolutely not. All they need to do is do it and do it well, and it's still a good site.
The video options are pretty good for the newer videos. However, let's look at problem #3, inconsistency. Some movies have great options, some have rather weak ones. I will say that the newer videos with the updated qualities are fantastic. However, delving further back, you will run into weaker quality, more segments, and an overall lesser experience. The previews are consistently good- around six nice thumbnails to give you a feeling of what the videos look like. Add in the box art, front and back, and you will get a good feel for each video.
Adult Rated claims over 2000 videos. All of these sites claim huge amounts of this and that, but when you break it down into what you really want, the numbers shrink quite a bit. Still, the site has enough content to keep you busy for a very long time, don't get me wrong on that. With two full videos per day, there is plenty upcoming as well.
Conclusion
So I guess the burning question is- should I sign up for Adult Rated? Well, I'd say while Adult Rated is a nice site- I've seen the same content presented slightly better. So you can really flip a coin between ten different sites and get pretty much the same stuff. If this is your first foray, and this is the first review you stopped at, then sure, go for it. However, anyone with any experience in these types of sites should continue on to the next best thing. I will note that the price is definitely right here, as well, so for newbies, this becomes more of a must-have.
